Fieldcraft
Maxing Carcass Quality
Core rule: size matching
Match your ammunition to the animal size to get the highest carcass price, integrity, and quality.
Example: a .243 round (target size B) is best used on size B animals.
If you take down a smaller animal with a round one size up — or anything far too powerful — quality, integrity, and price are set well below the tier’s normal range. Bigger is not better.
The four factors
- Vital organ hit
- Instant kill
- No headshot — hitting the head is a penalty
- Ammunition matched to the animal size
All four must be met — vital hit, instant kill, head untouched, size matched — for the carcass to score at its maximum.
In short
Check the species’ animal size → load size-matched ammo → one clean vital shot, avoid the head, drop it instantly. That’s the whole game.
